With just 43 days to go before the White River Bridge between Enumclaw and Buckley is closed for permanent repair work, one of the questions we’re frequently asked is, “Can we leave a car on one side and walk across the bridge during the repair work?”

The short answer is no.

After extensive conversations with the contractor about whether we can accommodate pedestrians and cyclists, we determined that we can’t provide safe pedestrian/cyclist passage across the bridge during the closure. There will be a lot of equipment moving overhead and sparks from welding. There’s also repair work that once it starts, it can’t be stopped to let pedestrians and cyclists through. The crew will have the appropriate safety equipment to be in an active work zone, but pedestrians and cyclists would not and we can’t compromise public safety.

Southbound I-5 weekend lane reductions near Marysville canceled

With more rain expected, the March 4-7 weekend work to replace aging expansion joints on southbound I-5 near Marysville is canceled.

Dry conditions are needed on Friday night for crews to paint temporary lane striping. The striping is necessary to maintain two lanes of through-traffic on southbound I-5 during the work. We can’t paint wet pavement, so the weekend lane reductions are delayed.

Drivers will now need to plan ahead for lane reductions on southbound I-5 through Marysville Friday night, March 11, until Monday morning, March 14.
