Pierce Country Sheriff’s Parkland Community Academy opening

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department is looking for a few more citizens for its Parkland citizens' academy. The Parkland session begins September 19 and will meet each Wednesday evening for 13 weeks at PLU.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a few more citizens for its Parkland citizens’ academy. The Parkland session begins September 19 and will meet each Wednesday evening for 13 weeks at PLU.

The academy is an opportunity to learn first-hand about the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and to meet the Sheriff and other department members.

The class covers such topics as the law, patrol procedures, use of force, detectives, narcotics, K-9, domestic violence, hiring and training, and more. Field trips are scheduled to the 9-1-1 Communications Center, the Pierce County Jail, Sheriff’s headquarters, and the Range. There is no charge.

The application deadline for this Parkland class is Monday, Sept. 10, or as soon as the class is filled. At this time there are 10 openings. Applicants must be at least 16 years old. Fingerprinting and a photo I.D. are required after preliminary acceptance to the program so sign up soon.
