Temporary closures of Pierce County Airport-Thun Field’s runway will take place betweenSept. 14 and Sept. 18 while crews seal pavement cracks and replace signage and markings.

The runway will be closed overnight from 7 a.m. Sept. 14 to 6 p.m. Sept. 15. The runway will also be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily on Sept. 16, 17 and 18.

Crews will seal pavement cracks on the airport’s runway, taxiway, and connector taxiways. Markings such as centerlines and runway numbers will be replaced.

Crews will also pour foundations for signage with the new runway numbers, which are being renumbered to 35/17 due to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirement. Signs with the new number will be installed in late September.

The contractor for the project is C.R. Consulting. The construction cost is approximately $160,000, and is funded with grants from the FAA and the Washington State Department of Transportation, as well as real estate excise taxes.
