Pierce County has issued a draft Comprehensive Plan update package and invites the community to learn more about topics like land use, transportation and regional parks at a series of open houses.

As part of that outreach campaign, the county will host an open house beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at the Bonney Lake Senior Center. The session is scheduled to last two hours.

It is not designed to be a formal presentation, so citizens can drop in anytime and ask questions of county staff.

“This is the community’s opportunity to learn how Pierce County will deal with growth in the unincorporated area over the next 20 years,” said Debby Hyde, special projects coordinator.

Pierce County’s Comprehensive Plan update looks ahead to the next 20 years. The review and update began in 2013 and will be completed by June 2015.

The majority of policies and direction of the county’s current plans will be maintained and carried forward in the update. The update addresses new Washington state legislative requirements and recent changes in land-use law.
