Pierce County Library board meets April 8

Highlights include:

  • Collection management librarian Kati Irons published an article in the January/February 2015 issue of Public Libraries magazine that reviews recent work underway at the library system focusing on process improvement. Board packet (p.29-36)
  • The third annual Lakewood MakerFest takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 2, 2015 at Pierce College. The event is a collaborative partnership between the library, Pierce College, Lakewood Computer Clubhouse and Brown Paper Tickets. Board packet (p.49)
  • Friends, family and library supporters gathered on March 28, 2015, for a brief ceremony to unveil the Florence Davis Reading Lounge at South Hill Library. Donors had the opportunity to view new furnishings, charging stations and displays made possible through their gifts. Florence Davis was a charter member of Friends of South Hill Library before the current library opened in 1990. Board packet (p.50-53)
  • At Fife Library, the widening of 20th Street East necessitates utility work in the area. Engineering firm AHBL is working on design specifications for the library frontage. This work will be bid as soon as the specifications are complete. Board packet (p.59)
  • In order to provide improved, faster service, the library upgraded equipment for its laptop labs at 10 library locations. Board packet (p.111)
  • The library is developing new technology classes to assist job seekers and provide digital literacy training thanks to three grants totaling $264,750. The concepts and approaches taken with each grant serve distinct purposes, but each project builds upon the other to help the library make use of products while providing programs that help test the community’s interest and need for learning technology. Board packet (p.112)
