Police question story of man who claims he was assaulted with a bat | BONNEY LAKE POLICE BLOTTER

ASSAULT WITH A BAT: Police were called to Allan Yorke Park April 7 for an assault and theft. According to the police report, the victim was assaulted by several men in the vacant lot across from the boat launch. The victim fled on foot and was able to observe the suspects attempt to gain access to his vehicle. The suspects were gone when police arrived. The victim said he did not have any injuries but was “clipped” by a baseball bat near his ankle as he was running away. According to the victim, he was walking near the lot when five men surrounded him and demanded he empty his pockets. One stole his keys from his sweatshirt pocket. As the victim fled, one of the suspects threw a baseball bat at him and another began to chase him, though the victim outran him and was able to hide and call for help. He reported seeing the suspects leave the area in another vehicle. According to the police report the officer on the scene did not believe the story and proceed to question the victim further, receiving vague answers about why the victim’s vehicle was parked where it was and why he was cutting across the lot when the sidewalk would be quicker, but the victim claimed “personal reasons” or would not answer.

THREATS: Police on April 7 took a report from a teenager about a fellow high school student who made violent threats toward him, including threats to stab the reporting party and “kill your hole (sic) (expletive) family.” Records indicated the suspect, whose name was retrieved through a myspace.com printout showing the threats, has a prior history of domestic violence in which a knife was involved. Police contacted the home of the suspect and family members reported him a runaway and said they had not heard from him for a week and no friends were admitting to know where he was. Puyallup police located the suspect later in the week and when Bonney Lake officers contacted the suspect at which time he admitted to making the threats because he was angry. The suspect was placed under arrest for felony harassment and booked into Remann Hall.

BURGLARY: Police on April 8 were dispatched to the 10400 block of 174th Avenue East for a report of a break-in at a house under construction. The reporting party observed door to the residence had been forced open. Nothing was taken from the residence. The reporting party also saw two teenagers walking up the hillside and one yelled “run” as they saw the parties approach the house.

VEHICLE PROWL: Police on April 8 responded to vehicle prowl in progress in the 10200 block of 216th Avenue East after an undercover Tacoma police officer came out of his home to discover the door to his unmarked cruiser open and a man inside the vehicle. The suspect fled on foot. Police called in K-9 units to track, but the search ended without the suspect. Taken from the vehicle were a laptop computer, a cell phone, a Tacoma police badge, a flashlight, a briefcase, several DVDs and other items. Police are investigating.

SHOPLIFTING: Police on April 8 were dispatched to Walmart for a report of a shoplifter. Store security observed the suspect selecting items from the store and attempting to leave the store without paying for $264 in merchandise. The suspect was transported to Buckley Jail and booked for theft.

TRESPASSING: Police on April 8 arrested a 16-year-old male for trespassing at Bonney Lake High School after the the suspects refused several requests from staff to leave school grounds. The suspect had previously been expelled from the school and refused to leave, even after police asked him several times to do so. The suspect was repeatedly disrespectful to the officers, at one point asking if the officer wanted a dollar for a doughnut. The suspect was then warned that if he did not leave he would be arrested for trespassing at which time the suspect reportedly said “Go ahead.” He was arrested, charged with trespassing and released to the custody of a neighbor at a parent’s request.

VANDALISM: Police on April 10 were dispatched to the 7000 block of 185th Avenue East for a report of a rock being thrown through the window of a resident’s car. Damage was estimated at $700.

POSSESSION: Police on patrol April 9 observed a car with a cracked windshield with a registered owner whose license was suspended. Officers pulled over the vehicle and when police contacted the driver they smelled a strong odor of marijuana. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle and police located marijuana and a pipe in the car. The driver was transported to Buckley Jail and booked for driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

SHOPLIFTING/MINOR IN POSSESSION: Police on April 9 were dispatched to Safeway for a report of a minor female in custody for shoplifting. A store employee reported seeing the female and a male run out of the front exit carrying two cases of beer each. The employee chased the pair and was able to catch the female who attempted to escape by holding on to a pole outside and refusing to let go. The male escaped into a waiting vehicle, which drove off. The girl was charged with shoplifting and released to the custody of her grandmother.

VANDALISM: Officers on April 10 took a report from a caller saying someone used a large rock to break the window of her vehicle during the night while it was parked at her residence in the 7600 block of Myers Road.

POSSESSION: Police on patrol on state Route 410 observed a vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at the stop sign and pulled it over. When police contacted the driver they detected a scent of marijuana. One of the passengers confessed to having a baggie of marijuana and turned it over to police so the driver would not get in trouble. The passenger was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. The driver was cited for failure to come to a complete stop.

FRAUD: Officers on April 13 took a report of a credit card fraud that occurred April 10 at Larry’s Classic Automotive where one of the employees had swiped his card through the company’s machine and given himself an unauthorized refund of more than $993. When contacted, the employee denied swiping his card through the machine, but said he saw the money in his account. He said another employee did it in an attempt to get him fired. Police took statements and are investigating.

VEHICLE PROWL: Policed were dispatched to the 11100 block of 193rd Avenue East for a report of found property including a wallet. Police located the owner of the wallet, who said it was taken from his vehicle during the night. Other items taken from the vehicle included a portable DVD player, several DVDs and an insurance card. Police are investigating.

NARCOTICS POSSESSION: Police stopped a vehicle after a license check revealed the driver to be driving with license suspended. During the check, police heard the sound of glass hitting concrete and saw the passenger making furtive movements. A search of the passenger reveled several baggies of a white powder that was later confirmed as methamphetermine and a glass pipe. The passenger was transported to Pierce County Jail and booked on drug charges.

FRAUD: Police responded to the Key Bank for reports of an attempt to cash a stolen check. Employees also suspected the suspect was high. Police arrested the individual for fraud. Further investigation found methamphetermines and marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the suspect’s vehicle.
