Plans are in the works for a private school to be built on a vacant parcel of land fronting on Semanski Street in Enumclaw.

Cedar River Academy now operates out of space rented from the Enumclaw School District in the former J.J. Smith Elementary School building. But school sponsor Roger Franklin has purchased the Semanski Street acreage, a former farm, and has initiated plans for a school that could eventually house 250 students in prekindergarten through 12th grade.

While the city of Enumclaw has tentatively endorsed the project, the public still has two opportunities to provide comment. The issue will be discussed Thursday night during a meeting of the city's Design Review Board; additionally, the proposal is undergoing environmental review and anyone with concerns can direct comments to the Department of Community Development. Those comments must be received by the city by Oct. 17.

Franklin's proposal calls for a campus of five buildings, parking lot, open lawn areas, a covered play area, a play structure and a large sports field.
