Washington State Board of Health will discuss updating the Vibrio parahaemolyticus (shellfish) control plan at its Wednesday meeting.

The board’s shellfish rules provide regulatory guidance for the commercial harvesting and distribution of clams, oysters, scallops and mussels that protect public health while maintaining robust commercial and recreational shellfish harvesting opportunities.

The November meeting agenda also includes a diverse set of public health topics including newborn screening and implementing the chicken pox (varicella) vaccine plan. The board, celebrating 125 years of state public health in Washington, encourages anyone with an interest in public health and rulemaking to attend.

The Board of Health will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Wednesday in rooms 152 and 153 of Point Plaza East located at 310 Israel Road SE in Tumwater. This meeting is open to the public with an opportunity for testimony on any public health issue.
