Ballots for the Feb. 6 Sumner School District special election were sent out this week to area residents.
Proposition No. 1 asks for about $114 million in general obligation bonds for land purchases for future schools and modernization and reconstruction of Sumner High School, Sumner and Lakeridge middle schools and Victor Falls, Bonney Lake and Maple Lawn elementary schools.
The bond includes a complete rebuild of Lakeridge Middle School, which was constructed in 1981.
A 60 percent “supermajority” out of at least 5,000 votes is needed for passage.
The bonds will be repaid from property tax levies over a 20-year span. According to the district the rate to repay the bonds wold be $2.10 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2007. Exemptions may be available to homeowners more than 61 years old, disabled or in with low income.
The election is mail only. Ballots can be mailed or dropped off at the express booth in the Fred Meyer parking lot, 20901 State Route 410 East. The booth is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 2 through Feb. 6.
