A total closure of South Tacoma Way between South Pine and South Wilkeson streets that was scheduled to remain in place through early Monday, Jan. 13, has been revised. Crews now plan to reopen the city street by 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 12.

The closure was put into place Friday night so crews could demolish sections of the temporary eastbound State Route 16 Nalley Valley Viaduct spanning the city street.  Demolition of that portion of the temporary viaduct is now complete and contractor Mowat Construction has revised its construction schedule to reopen the roadway early.

Demolition of the temporary eastbound viaduct will continue over the next several weeks. A corresponding total closure of South Center Street will also occur over a future weekend for similar demolition work.

Night closures of the eastbound SR 16 exit to South Sprague Avenue Monday through Thursday, Jan. 13-16, will proceed as scheduled for landscaping work. Exiting motorists will be detoured to the eastbound SR 16 exit to South Union Avenue. Mainline eastbound SR 16 will remain open.

The overall project is scheduled to be complete in July, 2014.
