Special transit service expands | Sumner Mayor update

For over a year now, we've really been enjoying having the Beyond the Borders connector bus serving Sumner. This is the shuttle bus you see running around town that transports seniors, persons with disabilities, youth and low-income citizens to places like Fred Meyer, the Senior Center and throughout town. I know people who use it to get to the doctor and to jobs. I really want to thank our executive, Pat McCarthy, and Pierce County's Community Connections department for providing this great service.

For over a year now, we’ve really been enjoying having the Beyond the Borders connector bus serving Sumner.  This is the shuttle bus you see running around town that transports seniors, persons with disabilities, youth and low-income citizens to places like Fred Meyer, the Senior Center and throughout town.  I know people who use it to get to the doctor and to jobs.  I really want to thank our executive, Pat McCarthy, and Pierce County’s Community Connections department for providing this great service.

Now, they’re trying something new in addition to this great circular service!  Seniors, persons with disabilities, youth and low-income riders in Sumner – as well as Bonney Lake and Buckley – can now request more specific door-to-door service up to three times a month, to get to places in east Pierce County not served by the Connector Route.  This is in addition to the regular routes serving our City.  I just can’t tell you how tickled I am that not only is this service working in Sumner, but it’s also expanding to other communities as well.

The new service is a pilot project, scheduled to run until June 30, 2015, so if you know someone who may be able to use this service, refer them to 2-1-1 or Beyond the Borders at 1-888-600-8043 for more information. The best way to keep it growing is to use it!
