SR 161 speed limit reduction begins Monday

Motorists who drive State Route 161 through Graham will want to pay especially close attention to their rate of travel, because starting next week the speed limit on a section of the roadway will be reduced from 50 mph to 45 mph.

Washington State Department of Transportation crews are scheduled to unveil new speed limit signs on Monday, May 7, on a 2.5-mile stretch between the Pierce County Fairgrounds and 176th Street.

Lowering the speed limit on this section of highway is more consistent with other speeds in the vicinity, and creates a 4-mile, 45 mph stretch of SR 161 between Graham and South Hill.
