TACOMA – Drivers who use northbound State Route 7 in Tacoma should plan ahead for a total night closure at East 38th Street while crews remove an overhead sign bridge that spans the northbound lanes of the highway.

At 9 p.m. Friday, May 16, crews will close access to northbound SR 7 at East 38th Street. The closure will close access to three ramps:

1) northbound SR 7 to northbound I-5;

2) northbound SR 7 to southbound I-5;

3) northbound SR 7 to the Tacoma city center.

At that time crews will also close the 38th Street on-ramp to northbound SR 7.

Northbound SR 7 and all ramps will reopen by 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17.

The sign bridge has been permanently replaced with shoulder-mounted signs directing motorists through the area.

Before drivers get behind the wheel, they can get real-time traffic information on their mobile device with the WSDOT traffic app, and by following the WSDOT Twitter feed.
