Drivers are encouraged to use extra caution next week when driving through several intersections on state Route 161 while crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation upgrade traffic signal systems. During the work, the signals will be turned off and law enforcement officers will direct traffic through the intersections.

The work will take place at different locations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 through Thursday, Feb. 27. The work is scheduled outside main morning and afternoon commute times to reduce impacts to the traveling public.

Work schedule:

  • Monday, Feb. 24, SR 161 and Kapowsin Highway (304th Street East)
  • Tuesday, Feb. 25, SR 161 and 224th Street East (Muck-Kapowsin)
  • Wednesday, Feb. 26, SR 161 and Eustis-Hunt Road East
  • Thursday, Feb. 27, SR 161 and 204th Street East

Motorists are advised to plan for delays and add travel time to reach their destinations.  The Washington State Patrol will conduct traffic control, however in the absence of officers or operating signals, motorists are advised to treat the intersections as all-way stops.
