The effort to repave a portion of State Route 509 and make ADA improvements to sidewalk ramps in Tacoma is beginning a new phase of night work. A few more days of daytime single-lane closures are needed to rebuild the sidewalk ramps, but once that work is complete all lane closures will shift to night hours only.
Crews will close lanes on SR 509 between Alexander Avenue East and Taylor Way east from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, July 7. Traffic will be directed by flaggers. The daytime closures have caused lengthy backups and motorists are advised to avoid the area if at all possible.
In addition, work also will require nighttime lane closures in the same area at 7 p.m. Monday throughThursday through July, 17. The lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. each day.
Two additional days of daytime lane closures are anticipated over the next couple weeks. The daytime lane closures will be announced as they are scheduled.
Drivers should expect delays and add extra time to reach their destinations.
