Sumner is employing the expertise of a consulting firm to determine the most effective use of land for flood reduction.

The land included for use is about 100 acres south of Sumner Meadows Golf Links.

Sumner received a grant form the Salmon Recovery Funding Board to conduct a feasibility study and a design for a setback levee.

Ted Hill, associate city engineer, said the study being conducted by the city is intended to determine feasibility and how to best use the land identified in the earlier study as the setback levee land.

“The biggest part for us is the feasibility,” Hill said.

He said the city looks at which sections of the land are best for flood mitigation and which are best for creating wildlife habitat, if feasible.
