Sumner-Buckley Highway to be resurfaced

Work begins April 11

Buckley commuters beware — you may have to spend some extra time in your car if you travel the Sumer-Buckley Highway this month.

According to Pierce County, the highway is going to be resurfaced from 258th Avenue East to West Mason Avenue, right at the Buckley city limits. Site preparation beginning April 4, and resurfacing work on April 11. The work may cause the road to be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic, with the possibility of a pilot car helping escort vehicles; according to Construction Supervisor Andrew Davis, the most heavy work is expected between April 11 and 22.

Work is largely expected to wrap-up by the end of May.

Other improvements being made to the road include replacing some guardrails and regrading a section of the roadway side slope.

Work hours on the road will be from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The $1.1 million project is funded by the Washington State County Road Administration Board Rural Arterial Program.
