Sumner Mayor Dave Enslow announced some good news at the last council meeting of the year, informing everyone more than half a million dollars in grant funding is headed Sumner’s way.

“I’m very happy to announce that we put in for a $1.2 million grant for sidewalks on Parker Road and the state called back and said could we get by for $600,000?” Enslow said.

Enslow said there aren’t specific plans for the project yet, but the funds will go toward Parker Road sidewalks.

Carmen Palmer, Sumner Communications Director, said the city will determine how best to use the funds for sidewalks along Parker Road since the amount being sent to the city is less than the amount requested.
