Sumner man arrested after fatal car accident in Pacific

Pacific Police have arrested a 29-year-old Sumner man following a fatal two-vehicle accident on Pacific's Stewart Road early Monday morning.

Pacific Police have arrested a 29-year-old Sumner man following a fatal two-vehicle accident on Pacific’s Stewart Road early Monday morning.

A 24-year-old Graham man was killed in the accident.

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to a 911 call received at 2 a.m., reporting an accident at 151 Stewart Road.

The initial report stated that two vehicles collided with one car in the ditch, the driver of the vehicle in the ditch did not appear to be breathing, the caller said.

Valley Regional Fire Authority and King County Medic 1 personnel arrived on location with Pacific and Auburn Police and found the driver of one of the vehicles trapped. Crews quickly evaluated the trapped patient and determined that he had succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the other vehicle involved was transported to Auburn Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Pacific police arrested a Sumner man involved in the crash at the intersection of Stewart and Thornton Avenue Southwest. The suspect was driving a Ford pickup truck west on Stewart Road Southeast when he crossed the center line and struck head-on a white Toyota Echo heading east, police said.

The victim was later identified as Samuel Lee Stephens, the driver of the Echo.

The other driver has not been identified pending charges.

Alcohol may have played a factor in the accident, police said.

The man was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide.
