SUMNER POLICE BLOTTER

LICENSES/WARRANTS

• At approximately 2:14 p.m. Nov. 8, a check of a vehicle showed the vehicle was sold and the new owner had failed to register the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped in the 6400 block of 166th Avenue East. A records check of the driver showed his driver’s license was suspended with multiple previous convictions and warrants for his arrest. The officer asked the driver if he wished for his vehicle to be released to the passenger and the driver approved. The passenger was asked for his identification so the officer could verify that he had a valid license. The passenger provided the officer with a license out of Kentucky but the picture on the license did not match the passenger. The passenger pulled out a wallet and was flipping through it. The officer spotted a temporary license and asked the passenger if he could see the wallet and he handed it to the officer and that ID did match. A records check of the passenger indicated he, too, had a suspended license. When the officer asked the passenger why he lied about his who he was, the passenger said “I didn’t want to have to walk.”

BURGLARY

• At approximately 12:35 p.m. Nov. 12 officers responded to the 7300 block of 142nd Avenue East for a report of a burglary. Officers made contact with the victim who indicated he went to meet an acquaintance the night before. When he came home he found his home had been burglarized and advised he may have been set up. Pry marks were noted on the front door and door frame though there were no other signs of forced entry. Officers walked through the residence, took several photographs and talked to neighbors who didn’t have much information to provide. Among the items stolen were credit cards. The victim later reported that his credit cards had multiple fraudulent charges on them from different locations throughout Pierce County.

UNDER THE INFLUENCE

• At approximately 3:35 p.m. Nov. 12 officers responded to the 1500 block of Valley Avenue for a report of a female passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle. Officers were advised there was a child in the car. When officers arrived they observed a vehicle parked with the right front and rear tires on the sidewalk. One officer made contact with an adult female standing outside of the vehicle while another officer made contact with the child inside of the vehicle to make sure she was OK. Officers then contacted the witnesses who advised that the suspect vehicle swerved to miss another vehicle traveling on Valley Avenue, hit a curb, became airborne and came to rest astride the curb in the 1500 block of Valley Avenue. The driver advised she took prescription medications before driving and she did not perform well on her field sobriety tests so the driver was arrested for DUI and reckless endangerment.
