The Sumner School District is accepting nominations of students in grades two through seven for entry into the 2011-12 Highly Capable Program.

Students identified as highly capable in grades 3-5 are served in a self-conatined all-day program housed at Daffodil Valley Elementary School. Middle school students attend Lakeridge Middle School and their program includes social studies, language arts, math and science.

Nomination forms are available at all elementary and middle schools through Nov. 24 and through the district website.

Two qualifying areas are required for the Highly Capable program: Students must score a 90 percent or higher on the Cognitive Abilities Test used for students in grades two through seven and then students must also show high academic achievement.

For students in second and third grade, those who score above the threshold on the Cognitive Abilities Test will be invited to take the Stanford Achievement test and must post a score of 95 percent or higher in reading or math. For grades four through seven, students must be in the top 5 percent districtwide in Degrees of Reading Power scores and additional academic review of previous standardized testing scores.
