Sumner’s Main Street USA | Sumner Mayor Update

There are great things happening all over town--the opening of the YMCA in the east end, new houses being built, new jobs moving into the industrial area--but there's no denying that Sumner gets its very character from its historic downtown.

There are great things happening all over town–the opening of the YMCA in the east end, new houses being built, new jobs moving into the industrial area–but there’s no denying that Sumner gets its very character from its historic downtown.  PBS once said, “If you went looking for Main Street America, you’d be hard-pressed to find a prettier one than Sumner, Washington.”  And great things are happening Downtown too!  Have you tried the new Trackside Pizzayet or watched the remodel that will be Craft 19? How about the spruced up storefronts of the Smart Choice Tire Factory, Mignon’s Cafe, Today’s Country Store and My Closet Envy?  Things are looking good!

I’ve learned over the years from our friends at the Sumner Downtown Association that the challenge with historic downtowns is making sure that they continue to be relevant to newer generations.  That’s why major renovations like Trackside Pizza and Craft 19 are so good to see.  They’re also investing in upgrades that will help protect the buildings for years to come.

Speaking of the Downtown Association, if you haven’t yet already, please say hello to Kevin Caviezel, their new director.  If you too are passionate about preserving our downtown, there’s a couple of ways you can help.  The Harvest Wine Walk is coming upSeptember 12 and is a fundraiser for the Downtown Association.  The Association is also looking for a few new board members as some existing terms are up at the end of the year. Contact the Downtown Association for more information if you’re interested.  In the meantime, remember to shop, dine and enjoy the beautiful downtown that we all call home.
