Teens are just trying to make a difference

Enumclaw High School students are taking a weekend to earn money for the American Cancer Society

Enumclaw High School students are taking a weekend to earn money for the American Cancer Society.

Relay For Life of Enumclaw’s youth team Rockers 4 Life will be hosting a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 4 and 5 at 3405 Spring Place in Enumclaw. All proceeds will go to Relay For Life of Enumclaw.

The team is made up of 18 high school students including Kevin Nelson, sophomore at EHS. Nelson is the team captain and became involved to honor his mom who has recovered from melanoma.

“I’m doing this for my mom,” Nelson said. “I want to do something that will not only make a difference in Enumclaw, but the whole world.”

The team ranges from freshmen to seniors and includes students among multiple high school activities including ASB, football, cheerleading and cross country.

“They are all great kids and we’re so proud of them,” Laurie Nelson said.

The 2010 Relay For Life of Enumclaw will take place June 19 and 20 at the JJ Smith Elementary building.

With the theme “Rockin’ Through the Decades,” Relay For Life is encouraging the community to enjoy the fun-filled overnight event and celebrate cancer survivors and loved ones and to raise money for the fight of cancer.
