Two-day event filled with lots of family fun

Friday night the movie “Twilight” will kick off the fifth annual Bonney Lake Days, which features food, arts and craft booths and entertainment at Allan Yorke Park.

Special Events Coordinator David Wells said the movie will begin between 8:45 and 9 p.m. and admission is free.

Wells and his staff have spent the past year planning for this event.

“Each year it’s getting bigger and better,” Wells said. “We’re looking for a great weekend.”

Wells said he is hoping for good weather during the event.

“Weather will depend on whether people attend or not,” Wells said.

Saturday’s activities begin at 9:30 a.m. with a fun run sponsored by Fleet Feet Sports. The run starts at Emerald Hills Elementary School, 19513 S.Tapps Dr. E., and will finish inside the park.

Registration is $10 and includes a T-shirt. Children under age 12 are free but will not receive a T-shirt.

Interested persons can register online at www.fleetfeetbonneylake.com, or the day of the race.

Gift certificates will be awarded to the top male and female runners, regardless of age. A drawing will also be conducted and awards will be presented at 10:45 a.m. on stage.

The parade will start at 9:45 a.m. at Emerald Hills Elementary School with Tacoma Rainiers’ mascot Rhubard as the grand marshal.

Wells said the Bonney Lake High Band, along with community groups and classic cars are part of the parade.

Wells said there will be more than 100 food and craft booths. From 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., there will also be Kids Zone and bingo.

The Classic Car Show is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday inside the park. The show, sponsored by Les Schwab, will feature more than 30 cars.

Providing entertainment Saturday are Roach Gymnastics, Michelle’s School of Dance, Dancemakers Northwest, Astro Cats, Bonney Lake College of Martial Arts, Nowhere Near Nashville and Jeweled Scarab Dancers.

Sonic Funk Orchestra will play a dance from 7 to 10 p.m. at the main stage and Womanipura, a fire-dancing troup, will perform during breaks.

Sunday’s activities begin with a 10 a.m. with a skate board competition sponsored by Rainier Board Shop at the city’s skate park.

Six contestants will sing during the Stars on Stage competition at 1 p.m.

Signal Fire, Starstruck and Streetlight will perform Sunday along with local dance groups.

Booths and activities are slated between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The park is located near the intersection of Bonney Lake Boulevard and West Tapps Highway.
