The 5th Avenue Awards program, which annually honors high school musical theater, has singled out two Enumclaw High School students for special recognition.

The 5th Avenue program is a high school version of the Tony Awards and allows theater students from across Washington to meet, celebrate, and honor productions presented during the 2011-12 school year.  This year’s awards program begins at 7 p.m. Monday at The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle.

For the 2011-12 high school theater season, 191 nominations and 99 honorable mentions were given in various categories. Enumclaw High captured a nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Featured Ensemble Role for Michelle McGrath as Gavroche in “Les Miserables,” and an Honorable Mention for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for Juliet Bannerot as Madame Thenardier, also in “Les Miserables.”

Each year, schools from across Washington state apply their musicals for consideration by The 5th Avenue Awards Committee. Evaluators travel throughout the state, seeking the best actors and actresses, directors and designers to represent their schools in the annual event.

An estimated 2,100 high school students are expected to attend this year’s awards program, along with their families and friends.
