Two found guilty of murder in Lakewood robbery and shooting death

Brother and sister set up phony drug deal to make the dealer vulnerable to attack.

Yesterday, a jury found Corey Trosclair, 42, and Kisha Fisher, 38, guilty of Murder in the First Degree for the robbery and shooting death of Lenard Masten last year in Lakewood.

“We are gratified these two defendants were held accountable for the robbery and murder of Mr. Masten,” said Deputy Prosecutor John Sheeran, who tried the case with Deputy Prosecutor Heather deMaine. “The Lakewood Police Department and the FBI South Sound Gang Task Force conducted a thorough investigation and Lakewood Officers Martin and Conlon worked tirelessly on this case. We were honored to work with them and their teams.”

On the afternoon of January 16, 2011 defendant Trosclair and co-defendant Mario Steele met with the victim to buy drugs. Around 8:15 p.m. that night, defendant Fisher called the victim to arrange a drug transaction at a gas station near the victim’s apartment. Minutes later defendants Trosclair and Steele accosted the victim as he left his apartment and walked to his car. The trio struggled and one of the defendants shot the victim in the abdomen. The victim’s girlfriend heard the gunshot and looked out her apartment window to see two men fighting with Masten. One of the defendants rummaged through the victim’s pockets as he lay bleeding on the ground. The victim was transported to a local hospital and died in surgery.

Investigators analyzed cell phone records of the defendants and found a call pattern between Trosclair, Steele, and the victim on the day of the murder. The records also traced defendant Trosclair’s movement from his home in Kent to the victim’s Lakewood apartment at the time of the shooting. Evidence presented at trial showed that defendant Fisher, who is Trosclair’s sister, set up the fake drug buy as a ruse to lure him out of his residence.

Trosclair and Fisher face more than 30 and 25 years in prison, respectively, when sentenced on August 24 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 2C in the County City Building. Defendant Steele is scheduled for trial in January.
