Van crashes into Enumclaw business

No one was hurt in the wreck, though the building sustained more than a little damage.

Ted DeVol has been motocross racing for 35 years.

But when a van pummeled into his business on the corner of Stevenson and Garrett in Enumclaw, he said he “never had an adrenaline rush like that.”

At approximately 3:36 p.m. on Oct. 18, a large white van left the Starbucks parking lot across the street and accelerated into DeVol Racing Equipment, going through not just the cement outer wall but the drywall on the inside.

Miraculously, no one was hurt — according to DeVol, his employee who works in the shipping area where the van crashed into had left for the day just 10 minutes earlier.

The driver, Bradley Shupe, was also unharmed, though he declined to comment on the crash.

According to Enumclaw Police Department Sgt. Jon Buss, it appears the accelerator got stuck, causing the crash.

The van was extracted from the building over the weekend, and a more thorough investigation is expected.

DeVol said he’s going to have to move some of his operations around, but doesn’t expect to have to close.
