Vehicle prowler confesses, ruins girlfriend’s brilliant alibi | SUMNER POLICE BLOTTER

All persons in the police blotter are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

PROTECTION ORDER VIOLATION: On Nov. 22 at approximately 12:14 p.m. an officer responded to Good Samaritan Hospital for a report of a protection order violation and domestic disturbance which started in Sumner. Officers were advised that the protected person in the protection order drove her boyfriend to the hospital after he cut his hand by breaking out a window while attempting to enter the protected person’s apartment. The protected person finally called police when her boyfriend refused to get out of her car as their argument had continued on from Sumner. The boyfriend was treated at the hospital then was booked into the Puyallup jail for violation of a protection order and for malicious mischief/domestic violence.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: On Nov. 22 at approximately 9:18 p.m. officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the 15500 block of Main Street. The reporting party—who was not involved in the incident—reported a female outside of a dwelling crying and trying to get back inside. The reporting person also advised that she heard what sounded like slapping sounds from inside of the room before she was locked out. When officers arrived to investigate the incident the male subject inside said he was the only one in the residence and denied that the female was there or that there was a problem. The officers told the male subject that witnesses saw the female go back into the room. The male subject looked at his feet and invited officers in. The male subject asked the female subject to come out of the bathroom; she then spoke with an officer outside. After running a name check it was found that the male had two warrants for his arrest and was the respondent in a protection order where the female found inside was a protected person. The male was booked into the Puyallup jail on the warrants and was issued a citation for the protection order violation.

VEHICLE PROWL: On Nov. 28 at approximately 9:04 a.m. officers responded to the 1200 block of Valley Avenue for a report of a vehicle prowl in progress. Communications advised there was a witness watching the suspect. Upon officers’ arrival they were advised that the suspect had picked up a passenger and was now leaving the lot. Officers performed a traffic stop and the suspect was told to exit the vehicle. On the suspect’s lap was a set of shaved keys (regular keys that have been filed down and are used to prowl/steal cars). The officer asked the suspect what he had been doing in the 1200 block of Valley Avenue and he replied that he was looking in cars for GPS units and said it was a “stupid mistake.” The suspect was transported to the Sumner Police Department where he was interviewed and placed into a holding cell. A female who said she was the suspect’s girlfriend called and said there was a misunderstanding – the suspect was not prowling cars but was actually looking for her vehicle in the crowded parking lot. The officer advised the caller that he had already confessed to prowling vehicles. The suspect was booked into the Puyallup jail for vehicle prowling and possession of burglary tools.
