Clifford Hoiland

Lifetime Enumclaw resident Clifford E. Hoiland died Dec. 28, 2010.

He was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Enumclaw to Ed and Matilda Hoiland and worked on the family dairy farm until he left home to serve in the U.S. Army. He met and married Carol and he died shortly before their 54th anniversary. He sold farm equipment for the first part of his career and later sold real estate. In retirement, he enjoyed reading, making wine, visiting with friends, gardening and watching sports. He was known as The Tomato Man because he grew and sold tomato plants during the past 15 years.

He is survived by wife Carol Hoiland; sons Mike Hoiland and wife Laura and Jeff Hoiland and wife Erika; daughters Diane Busch and husband Tony, Christy McGrath and Jean Hoiland; and 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

A celebration of his life will be planned for early spring. Details will be announced to family and friends.
