Duane Suchan

Bonney Lake resident Duane Suchan died July 30, 2011, at the age of 71.

He was born April 6, 1940, in Lisbon, N.D., to Louis and Lucille Suchan, grew up in Enumclaw and worked as a logger. He returned to North Dakota and worked as a truck driver for a grain elevator and also owned and operated a restaurant. He became an assembly foreman for Melrose Bobcats. He moved back to Washington and was a heavy equipment operator for Don Olson Construction until his retirement. He collected antiques and old cars and enjoyed NASCAR races.

He is survived by wife Joanne Suchan of Bonney Lake; son David Suchan and wife Jacquelyn of Orting; daughters Debbie Henderson of Sumner, Dodie Thompson of Ridgefield, Wash., Colleen Bono of Bonney Lake and Rachel Merrifield and husband Chris of Buckley; stepson Shawn Hutton of Seattle; brother Don Suchan and wife Pearl of Center, N.D.; brother-in-law Mahlon Wavra of Yuma, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughter Carrie Suchan on Dec. 4, 1977, and sister Donneen Wavra on April 25, 2002.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Weeks’ Funeral Home in Buckley.
