LaVerne Madill King died peacefully the evening of Jan. 16, 2020, surrounded by family. She was 88.

She was born Dec. 9, 1931, in Tacoma to the late Tony and Martha Basselli. She was raised in Carbonado and graduated from White River High School in 1949. She married Norman Madill on Oct. 22, 1949, and moved to Enumclaw, where they had two children. She was employed by Erwin’s Grocery and Highpoint Village. As an adult she became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. LaVerne enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching their sports and other activities. She also enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, casinos and going to the Enumclaw Senior Center. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, the Buckley Eagles #1387 Auxiliary, VFW Post 1949 Auxiliary and the Sassy, Classy, Lassies Red Hatters.

She is survived by daughter Sue VanHoof; son Tony Madill (Wanda); five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman.

A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Enumclaw with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Monsignor Farrelly Memorial Youth Fund, 1614 Farrelly St., Enumclaw, 98022, or Evergreen Hospice, 12040 N.E. 128th St. MS #5, Kirkland, Washington 98034-3098.
