Enumclaw resident Leeta Marks Lagerstrom, 89, died Aug. 17, 2012.
She was born March 1, 1923, in Valley Falls, Kan., to Dr. J.M. Marks and Sarah McDowell Marks. She graduated in 1945 from Kansas University where she was involved in debate and was captain of the women’s basketball team and later did graduate work at Washington University and Case Western Reserve. She was a social worked and, from 1986 to 1991, was a staff member for U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed playing bridge, public speaking and connecing with her community.
She is survived by children Leeta Anderson, Nathan Lagerstrom, Sarah Andrew and Joseph Lagerstrom, as well as seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by twin Leela Marks Lonne-cker and sisters Sara Miller and Millie Ready.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Enumclaw. Burial will take place in Valley Falls, Kan.
