June 23, 1938- December 27, 2024
Nancy Elizabeth Ward/Flaherty/Secoy/Berg 86, passed away December 27, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love and family. Born on June 23, 1938 to Fred and Rose Ella Ward in Lemmon South Dakota. Nancy was the youngest of eight children. The move West happened when Nancy was eight years old. Her father Fred had died when she was two. Her step father George Edsall and Rose married and brought the youngest five children to Renton. Rumor had it, one could buy tires out West. Nancy was 15 when she and Pat Flaherty married in 1953 and started her family with three children. Mike (who proceeded her in death) Dan and Shannon. Her GED was achieved and also an AA degree. Many parties, reunions, birthdays and anniversaries were celebrated during their marriage. Her marriage ended to Pat in 1972.
No time was ever wasted in Nancy’s life. Just one month later, her sister introduced her to David B. Secoy, Renton VFWPost Commander. As members of the ‘Royal Order of Cooties’, they visited wounded warriors at the Seattle VA hospital. They bought a boat, joined the Rainier Yacht Club and enjoyed camping at Lake Cushman and Pilaguamish. Their marriage lasted just shy of 30 years.Nancy was a gracious mother to Davids’ two older children, Becky and Cathy. Dave and Nancy moved to Enumclaw in the late 1990s.David passed away in early 2002. Nancy was always a member of the Lutheran church. Pretty much never missed a Sunday. Her new church was Hope Lutheran. Here is where Nancy met Charles H. Berg. They married in 2003. Once again Nancy became a beloved family member to Kathy and Paul. Charles and Nancy enjoyed church, the symphony and travelling. Most days were breakfast lunch and dinner with snacks at 10 and two. Although, there was a cruise through the Panama Canal and a trip to Sweden! They also enjoyed their Chinook motorhome. Charles preceded Nancy in death.
Hopefully, you can imagine the amount of energy it would take to move through life as Nancy did. There was never any lack of energy. Nancy climbed Mt. Rainier in June of 1974. She actually made the coat she wore to climb and drank a can of Rainier at the top! Another huge accomplishment was the around the world trip she took alone on a cargo ship.
Baking, hiking, gardening, visiting, writing cards, volunteering at church, helping people know how to vote. Oh, And music! She loved classical and symphony. All of activities were so important to Nancy, but nothing was more important than her family. Nana, not to one, but Nana to all! She always wanted to achieve the Great Great Grandmother title and she wasn’t deprived that honor. She was the glue that held us together. Nancy’s true loves were her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, her country and family. God bless youNancy for honoring all of us by sharing your life with us. Celebration of Nancys life is April 5th@10:30 in Hope Lutheran Church Enumclaw WA.
