Richard Robert Olsen of Enumclaw died May 26, 2011.

He was born Feb. 18, 1918, in Seattle and joined the Army on Feb. 21, 1941, at Fort Lewis, Wash. He was a machine gunner and, after five water landings, he returned home safely and was honorably decorated and discharged on May 1, 1945.

He is survived by companion Flora Miller of Enumclaw; children Nancy Kizziar, Tanya Chandler, Marc Olsen and Krissy Olsen; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Tahoma National Cemetery.
