Richard Deryl Sorensen of Enumclaw died July 4, 2019.

Richard Deryl Sorensen of Enumclaw died July 4, 2019.

He was 91 years old. Dick was born June 19, 1928 to John and Lena Sorensen in Hamilton County, Nebraska.

His family moved to Enumclaw when Dick was 4 years old. He attended the Osceola grade school and graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1946.

He served in the United States Army and was posted in Virginia where he met Marion Wilson, a beautiful young lady with strawberry blond hair and blue eyes, who worked at the PX. They fell in love and the couple returned to Enumclaw, WA where they were married March 24, 1948. They resided in Buckley for 66 years, where they raised their four daughters. They moved to Living Court Assisted Living in Enumclaw in 2014.

Dick loved being involved in the community. He served on the Buckley town council, was a member of the JC’s, and was on the fire department for many years, serving as chief for two years. He and Marion shared a love of sports. They followed the White River Hornets football team and never missed a game, home or away. They followed their girls and grandchildren in the sports they played. They were Seahawks fans and held season tickets for many years. They both bowled and were on bowling leagues in Enumclaw.

Dick worked for Puget Power for 39 years starting as a lineman and then moving up to foreman. We had many summertime memories staying at American Lake and Lake Tapps where Puget Power had lake resorts and had their company picnics.

Our dad taught us a strong work ethic, that life might not always be fair, but to make the most of what you have. He exemplified what love was by loving our Mom and each of us. We will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his daughters: Karen (Bob) Burbank, Linda Tinney, Marsha (Karl) Ross, and Nancy Sorensen; his nine grandchildren: Shawna, Brett, Kelly, Wade, Sean, Margarett, Dawn, Lucas, and Richard; and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, his parents, and two brothers Raymond and Dennis.

A graveside service will be held at Buckley City Cemetery, behind Weeks’ Funeral Home on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 10:30 am followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Buckley Fire Department from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Buckley Fire Department.
