Last year, after one of this area’s odd and paralyzing snowstorms, I watched a very dumb guy in a very fancy SUV suddenly whip around the traffic in front of him and barrel at breakneck speed up an icy hill. The icy hill came out the victor, as icy hills are known to do.
‘Tis the season to celebrate downtown. It’s a good thing there are only 31 days in the month of December. A person could get plumb worn out attending holiday festivities.

Just click on the name of your hometown. Right now, it’s selling for $1.59 in Auburn, $1.60 in Covington, $1.62 in Kent, $1.77 in Bellevue, $1.89 in Redmond and $1.64 in Renton. Five months ago it was more than $4 a gallon. Nice trend.

The holidays are a time for most people to enjoy family and social events, but for those of us elected or re-elected to the state Legislature our time is consumed with preparing for the session that begins on Jan. 12. Considering the budget outlook, it’s no surprise that most of the comments I’ve heard from folks around town is them being sympathetic about the difficulty of the task facing legislators as they write the new two-year budget.

Ho ho ho…. Santa does love Sumner. Or at least he loves a parade in Sumner. And he’s not the only one. Thousands of people lined the streets of Sumner Saturday from the downtown railroad tracks to the high school where the parade started.

When Noah was getting ready to push off with his ark, the story goes, God told him to gather all the animals of the world “two by two.” That was a delicate way of saying that he was supposed to locate both a male and female version of each animal so that there would eventually be baby animals to ensure the continuation of each species. Fortunately, God didn’t have to explain the exact details of sex to Noah, who according to some sources fathered hundreds of kids of his own. That’s why God had to find something else for Noah to do.
