Emerald Downs Director of Racing Bret Anderson has released a list of 28 handicap weights for the 78th running of the $200,000 Longacres Mile (G3) on Sunday, August 18.
Hall-of-Fame trainer Bob Baffert has two of the three high-weighted horses*Grade 1 winner Liaison tops the list at 123 lbs, while Grade 2 winner Fed Biz is tied with Herbie D for third high-weight at 121 lbs. In between at 122 is the Craig Lewis-trained Clubhouse Ride, a 5-year-old Candy Ride horse who has repeatedly locked horns with Game On Dude this year in Southern California.
Herbie D, winner of nine-of 12 lifetime including a smashing victory in the July 21 Mt. Rainier Handicap, is among four horses at 121 lbs, along with Fed Biz, Politicallycorrect and Summer Hit.
Herbie D, a 5-year-old B.C.-bred trained by Robert Gilker, and Politicallycorrect, a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred trained by Wesley Ward, are expected to be co-starting high weights in the 78th Longacres Mile.
Others expected to enter are Jebrica, Tres Borrachos, Why Not Be Perfect, Mr. Bowling, Winning Machine, Gladding, Golden Itiz and Stryker Phd. Possible starters include Commander, Shrug, Hudson Landing, Devil in Disguise, Hoist, Saddleranch, Assessment and Until You.
The Longacres Mile is limited to 12 starters with high weights preferred. Entries will be drawn 11a.m., Wednesday, August 14 in the Emerald Room (4th floor).
