2014 Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners summer yearling and mixed sale set for Aug. 26

2014 Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners summer yearling and mixed sale set for Aug. 26

The WTBOA Summer Yearling and Mixed Sale is again slated for the Tuesdayafter the Longacres Mile (G3).  Since Washington’s premier racing event was moved, the 48th summer sale follows on August 26 at the Morris J. Alhadeff Sales Pavilion located at Emerald Downs in Auburn, Washington.

This year’s catalog is highlighted by 106 summer yearlings, representing top regional and national stallions and many of the best female families throughout North America.

WTBOA Sales Incentive Program

The WTBOA Sales Incentive Program, now in its fourth season, has proven popular with owners running their sales purchases at Emerald Downs. So far, 12 $1,000 SIP bonuses have been awarded to two-year-old WTBOA sale graduates.

Emerald Buy Here/Win Here Bonus Program

The WTBOA is pleased to announce the new Emerald “Buy Here/Win Here” Bonus Program.

Beginning with the 2014 sale, bonuses will be paid to qualifying Summer Session yearlings that break their maiden at Emerald Downs. This bonus will be for qualifying horses of any age and at any level. The bonus will be split, 50 percent to the consignor and 50 percent to the owner. The consignor is the registered owner(s) as listed on the WTBOA Summer Sale Yearling Session Contract. The Owner will be the person who owns the qualifying horse at the time that it breaks its maiden.

More details about this exciting new program can be found athttp://www.wtboa.com/Sales/EmeraldBonusProgram_2014.pdf.

Sale to Be Live-Streamed

The WTBOA will once again give interested parties the opportunity to view the sale day activities via the WTBOA website (www.wtboa.com).  Please note that the live-streamed sale will be shown with a slight time delay – NOT IN REAL TIME.

Telephone Bidding

The WTBOA will provide the opportunity for off-site bidding during theTuesday sale.  Prospective buyers, with established credit, who can’t be at the sale are encouraged to use knowledgeable bloodstock agents or consultants to examine the horses prior to the sale.

Equineline Sales Catalog App Now Available for WTBOA Sales

In another new feature, the WTBOA sale catalog is now available free of charge for iPad users through iTunes or the App Store (search for “Equine Sales Catalog”). The app gives you the ability to view the catalog pages, assign ratings, record conformation notes and veterinary information, hand write notes, highlight pages, perform customized searches, create short lists and more.

Sire Noise

Several stallions with “classic” relationships have yearlings in the sale, including Kentucky Derby (G1) winners Big Brown and Grindstone; and Belmont Stakes (G1) victors Birdstone and Summer Bird. Lucky Pulpit is the sire of this year’s Derby/Preakness phenom California Chrome and Forestry sired Preakness winner Shackleford.

Other stallions who are either Grade 1 winners and/or the sire of Grade 1 winners include: Albertus Maximus (first crop), City Zip, Colonel John (third crop), Corinthian, Dixie Chatter (third crop, three yearlings),  Flashy Bull, Flatter, Freud, Game Plan, Kafwain, Posse, Proud Citizen, Pure Prize, Rock Hard Ten, Smoke Glacken (champion), Soft Gold (Brz), Songandaprayer,  Stephen Got Even, Stevie Wonderboy (champion), Stormin Fever, Stroll, Successful Appeal, Tale of Ekati (second crop), The Cliff’s Edge, Tribal Rule, Wando and Yes It’s True.

Additional West Coast sire leaders represented include Harbor the Gold – who leads the sale with eight yearlings – He’s Tops, Nationhood and Parker’s Storm Cat.

Washington’s 2013 leading freshman sire and current second crop leader Nationhood was represented by his first stakes winner when Find Your Spot won the recent Irish Day Handicap. In addition, six other WTBOA sales graduates have won stakes in 2014:  E Z Kitty, Justanother Bob, Noosito, Trackattacker and the half-siblings Stryker Phd and Madame Pele.

Bottoms Up

The distaff side of the summer yearlings’ pedigrees should also be appealing, including those out of Washington champions Clair Annette (yearling by Tale of Ekati), Knight Raider (Yes It’s True), Zenovit (Tribal Rule) and Infernal McGoon (Smoke Glacken).  Washington broodmare of the year Peaceful Wings – who has already produced six stakes horses from her 12 winners – offers a full brother to Washington champion Jebrica and Seattle Slew Handicap winner Peaceful Reign. Half-siblings to state champions Castinette Dancer, Catalina Harbor, Celtic Dreamin, Couldabenthewhisky, Del Rio Harbor, Spanish Highway and Talk to My Lawyer are also cataloged.

Another yearling sure to draw attention is the Lucky Pulpit colt out of stakes-placed Eclatante, whose two-year-old Trackattacker set a new track record at Emerald Downs in early June when he took a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race by a commanding nine lengths and then added an impressive 11-length tally in the Emerald Express Stakes in July.

Karen and Mickey Taylor Consignment Highlight Mixed Session

Eight yearlings, eight horses of racing age and 18 broodmares comprise the mixed sale session, which is highlighted by the 18-horse consignment (plus five foals selling at side) of Karen and Mickey Taylor LLC. All of the horses in their consignment are linked to the Taylors’ great racehorse and sire Seattle Slew. Four of the mares consigned will offer buyers a “three-in-one” package.  The winning Yes It’s True matron Jenjor is also being offered as another three-in-one package, as she is being sold bred to Nationhood and with her 2014 colt from the first crop of Grade 2 winner Atta Boy Roy at side.

Stakes winners Silver Screen Girl, bred to Atta Boy Roy; Blondaway, covered by Nationhood; and Whistle Tester, bred to three-time Washington leading sire Parker’s Storm Cat, are also consigned.

Other broodmares up for bid include daughters of Grade 1 winners Arch, Larry the Legend and Pine Bluff and Grade 1-placed Chief Seattle.
