Buoyed by a two-day carryover of $21,054 and four days to study the races, the fans took their crack at picking the winners of races three through seven on the seven-race card, and the winning combination*2-2-5-4-2*returned $995.55. The $2 win prices were $8.20, $7.40, $3.80, $11 and $7.40.

In the feature race for 3-year-olds, Once Stable’s Mattallie took the early lead and held off Litl’l in Din Boy for a head victory in 1:10.24 for six furlongs on a fast track. Ridden by Jennifer Whitaker and trained by Howard Belvoir, Mattallie paid $11, $5.80 and $4.

A Washington-bred by Cahill Road-Campanita, Mattallie is 2-0-0 in five starts with earnings of $10,765. The gelding’s previous victory was a nine-length maiden claiming triumph on July 23, 2011.

Lit’l in Din Boy, with Rocco Bowen riding, rallied from fifth place and was closing the gap on the winner late. The runner-up paid $4.60 and $3.40. Freedomlastknight was another length back in third and paid $4.60 to show.

Davidaaronnathanne, Run Atom, Mo’em Down, Deadwood Sage, Snooper Dauper and Ex Hostess completed the order of finish. Sharper Knight was scratched earlier in the day.

Whitaker, the track’s No. 1 all-time female jockey with 391 wins, and Belvoir, No. 1 with 14 wins at the meet, have combined for three wins the last two racing days.
