The Enumclaw High water polo team qualified for the upcoming state tournament with a fourth-place finish at last weekend’s Region I tourney.

The Hornets opened regional play with a whopping 18-1 victory over Inglemoor Friday, then dropped a 16-4 contest to Mercer Island later in the day.

Saturday brought a split: the Hornets beat league rival Auburn Mountainview 7-3, thus assuring a berth at state, then fell 10-4 to Newport in a game for seeding purposes.

EHS opened state play at 5 p.m. Thursday, taking on defending state champion Gig Harbor at the Curtis Aquatic Center.
