The Panthers and Spartans were well represented when postseason honors were handed out.
Baseball
Sharing Coach of the Year accolades was longtime Bonney Lake coach Mike Olson, as voted upon by his South Puget Sound League 3A peers. Other Panthers honored included junior Nate Potterf, who was named to the first team as both a pitcher and a catcher. Potterf’s Panther cohorts were Joey Gamache, junior first baseman, second team; Taiki Green, freshman outfielder, second team; Trevor McQueen, senior designated hitter, second team; Michael Gretler, freshman shortstop, honorable mention; Ty Hander, junior third baseman, honorable mention; and Chris Brown, sophomore outfielder, honorable mention.
Sumner High players gleaning postseason recognition were Cameron Steffey, senior pitcher, first team; Tanner Brinkman, senior shortstop, first team; Seth Morgan, senior outfielder, first team; Brad Falk, senior designated hitter, first team; Tyler Hidalgo, senior utility, second team; Carlos Duran, sophomore pitcher/infielder, honorable mention; and Korbin Moss, senior catcher, honorable mention.
Fastpitch
Hauling in Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season was Bonney Lake senior shortstop Taylor Watkins. Other Bonney Lake players receiving postseason recognition were Kali Patterson, sophomore infielder, first team; Kayla Wells, sophomore second baseman, first team; Michaela Blad, sophomore outfielder/catcher, first team; Rendi Johnson, junior pitcher, first team; Christian McKone, junior outfielder, second team; Jacqui Corneya, junior infielder, honorable mention; Bailey Ahern, sophomore utility, honorable mention; and Chloe Beal, senior catcher/OF, honorable mention. Panther coach Andrew Sage was named Coach of the Year by a jury of his peers.
Sumner High Spartans earning postseason accolades were Sara Heuett, junior infielder, first team; Angie Sanchez, senior outfielder, first team; Allie Sims, sophomore pitcher, first team; Dani Babcock, senior catcher, first team; Amanda Haines, freshman infielder, honorable mention; and Laree Rommel, senior outfielder, honorable mention. First-year SHS skipper Kristin Crawley shared Coach of the Year laurels.
