The struggling, 1-7 Bonney Lake High boys basketball program continued its South Puget Sound League 3A slide, losing three games by an average of 40 points.

The forgettable week began with a discouraging 92-62 home loss to Decatur, which was led by Jerron Smith, who will be heading for Portland State University next year. He hit for 35 points.

It was more of the same when Lakes visited Friday.

The Lancers accumulated a 49-21 lead at the break and Bonney Lake was eventually overwhelmed 77-34.

When Bonney Lake made the short excursion for its second unsuccessful nonleague meeting of the season with rival SPSL 2A Sumner Saturday, the third rendezvous of the week certainly was not the charm, as SHS emerged the 82-44 victor.

Bonney Lake senior guard Ramsey Thoms, who continues to be one of the few bright spots of the dismal 5-12 Panthers’ trials so far, was once against the top point earner for BLHS against the Spartans. Thoms registered 13 points against the home team.

He had scored 27 points against Decatur.

Bonney Lake traveled to winless Peninsula Tuesday night and will sandwich in a make-up nonleague game with Graham-Kapowsin in the Panther Den tonight, Wednesday, before heading eastward to see critical SPSL 3A action at Enumclaw Friday. It will be the final regular season contest for each.
