BLHS CROSS COUNTRY: Illness staggers Panther runners in Pasco state championships

The Bonney Lake cross country team didn't exactly paint the course red during Saturday's Class 3A state cross country championships but, considering the competition, Panther runners didn't fare all that poorly, either.

The Bonney Lake cross country team didn’t exactly paint the course red during Saturday’s Class 3A state cross country championships but, considering the competition, Panther runners didn’t fare all that poorly, either.

The 3.1-mile race was staged at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

The Panther girls team battled illness, but with junior juggernaut Marie Wilson blazing the trail, still finished sweet 16th among 25 teams with 367 points.

Wilson crossed the finish line in 31st place overall with a time of 19 minutes, 31 seconds. Next came Sierra Espinal, 82nd with a time of 20:26. Madisen Liddle rounded out the top three with a personal best clocking of 20:56.

On the boys side of things, Bonney Lake had only Nolan Weber. He bolted out of the gate and led all harriers in the state after the first 800 meters of the race, but couldn’t keep that torrid pace and finished with a time of 17:33.
