On a brisk and misty Tuesday night in Bonney Lake, soccer fans were treated to a thrilling clash between the hometown Bonney Lake Panthers and the Lakes Lancers.

The Panthers, currently residing in second place within the league standings, squared off against the determined Lancers, who were valiantly holding their ground in fourth place, on Oct. 3. The pitch came alive with action, as the game unfolded into a fast-paced spectacle, with the ball zipping from end to end.

The game’s narrative unfolded with precision, like a well-choreographed ballet of athleticism. In the 24th minute, Ruby Pearson’s midfield magic set the stage for an exquisite display of teamwork. Her pass found Anne Anderson, who delivered a pinpoint assist to Jaylee Reynolds, igniting the home crowd’s passion with a 1-0 lead.

But the Panthers weren’t finished dazzling their fans just yet. In the 28th minute, a masterful build-up, orchestrated by the likes of Reese Snider-Welsh, Ruby Pearson, Chelsea Avery, and Alli Thompson, culminated in a set-piece free-kick opportunity. Anne Anderson’s precise service found freshman sensation Madi Campbell, whose one-touch finish doubled the Panthers’ lead to 2-0.

However, as the second half unfolded, the Lancers summoned their resolve and managed to draw level at 2-2, setting the stage for an exhilarating climax.

Then, in the 69th minute, with the tension in the stadium almost palpable, Anne Anderson stepped up to take a corner kick. Her delivery met the head of Jaylee Reynolds, whose deft touch guided the ball to the feet of the electrifying Madi Campbell.

With poise and precision, Campbell struck the ball, securing her second goal of the night and a 3-2 victory that sent the Bonney Lake faithful into euphoria. In the waning moments, the field witnessed a flurry of intense drives and near-misses, but the final whistle eventually brought an end to this breathtaking contest.

With this triumph fresh in their minds, their next challenge awaits them on home turf, as they prepare to face fifth-place Spanaway in a special “pink out” match on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 pm.

This annual tradition not only honors those battling cancer but also pays tribute to those who have unfortunately lost their fight. The Panthers aim to channel this spirit of determination and unity in their quest for soccer glory.
