Running back Aaron Quevedo sliced his way through the Clover Park defense for a pair of touchdowns and caught another as the Bonney Lake Panthers beat the Warriors 28-6 in South Puget Sound League 3A action Friday at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood.

Quevedo carried the ball 20 times for 156 yards.

The Panthers marched down the field on their first possession, going 88 yards in 12 plays. In the drive, quarterback Cole Schuler completed three passes to Colton Nash for 46 yards. Quevedo capped the drive with a 2-yard run and Cody Cade added the point-after kick for a 7-0 lead with 7:55 left in the opening quarter.

On the Panthers’ second possession, Schuler hit Lee Boggin for a 36-yard completion to the Warrior 16. Five plays later, Quevedo scored on a 1-yard run. Cade’s PAT gave BL a 14-0.

Bonney Lake recovered a Warrior fumble early in the second quarter near their 40-yard line. Schuler ran and passed the Panthers to the Warrior 9, then tossed a 9-yard touchdown to Quevedo with 4 minutes left in the first half. Cade tacked on his third PAT for a 21-0 lead.

Schuler completed 17-of-24 passes for 185 yards. He also added 32 yards rushing.

Clover Park took the ensuing kickoff and marched to the Panther 2-yard line. But the Panther defense, led by Dion Bertch, Hunter Colegrove, Jason Stenbakker and Tyler Babukas, stopped the Warriors on fourth down as time expired in the first half.

The Warriors took the second-half kickoff, but surrended the ball five plays later. They regain possession with an interception. Clover Park, behind quarterback Ionatana Pritchard, drove to the Panther 20.

Facing fourth-and-1, Pritchard forced a pass, but Danny Malloy picked off the ball.

Schuler scored Bonney Lake’s final TD on a 3-yard run with 3:12 left in the game.

Clover Park put together its own scoring drive in the final three minutes which ended with a 17-yard TD pass from Pritchard to Brandon Thompson.

The Panthers blocked the PAT with 14 second remaining.

“Defensively, we played outstanding,” Barrett said. “To keep zero on the board for more than 47 minutes, that’s pretty good.”

Overall, the Panthers rolled up 325 yards. Nash led BL with 11 catches for 113 yards.

Defensively, Colegrove recorded six tackles and had five assists, while Nash has five tackles and one assist.

“We had a lot of kids step up and play well,” Barrett said. “We played outstanding the first 24 minutes, but for us to be the football team we want to be we have to play 48. We’re getting better every week.”

The Panthers travel to Shelton Friday night for a nonleague contest against the Highclimbers.
