BLHS FOOTBALL: SPSL 3A mark plummets to 0-2

For the second week in a row, a huge offensive output wasn't enough to salvage a league victory for Bonney Lake High.

For the second week in a row, a huge offensive output wasn’t enough to salvage a league victory for Bonney Lake High.

The Panthers hosted a rugged Peninsula squad Friday night at Sunset Chev Stadium and were edged 48-45. With the loss, the Panthers watched their SPSL 3A mark plummet to 0-2 after bounding out to a 4-0 record overall.

The teal and black did not initiate play with its usual gusto, putting up a rare goose egg in the first quarter of play against the stout visiting bunch.

As the fray wore on against a big, strong, physical Peninsula crew, things became far more interesting.

Panther quarterback Chris Brown threw for 400 yards and six touchdowns in the wild encounter, tossing three touchdown strikes each to Zach Zaragoza and Kaleb Zahnow. Zaragosa was targeted 13 times during the frantic rally that fell just short and accumulated 222 receiving yards.

The Seahawks moved to 2-0 in league play with the win.

The Panthers will look to climb back in the driver’s seat, after two straight losses, when they roll out the red carpet for Decatur’s Gators at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Gators were bludgeoned 61-0 Friday by a relentless and undefeated 5-0 Lakes High squad.
