Bonney Lake High was one of 41 teams competing in Saturday’s Bellevue Cross Country Invitational at Lake Sammamish State Park near Issaquah.
The girls finished 20th and the boys were 18th in the overall standings for the 5,000 meter run.
The meet featured an unusual format. Each team’s No. 1 and No. 2 racers gather for one race; all the No. 2 and No. 3 racers ran a separate race; all others had a race of their own.
Veronica Stinnett placed third with at time of 18 minutes, 38.34 seconds, just less than 10 seconds behind the top finisher in the No. 1-2 race. Maria Wilson, a freshma,n finished 25th at 20:12.21.
In the No. 3-4 race, Sierra Espinal took 36th, while Emily Campbell was 28th and Hope Dickson was 36th in the 5-6 race.
In the boys’ race, Brandon Baumchen was 24th at 16:50.07 and Reed Hawkins finished 47th at 17:46.91.
In the No. 3-4 race, William Edwards and Jake Theriault finished 29th and 45th, respectively. Ryan McGrew was 25th in the No. 5-6 race, while Alex Kulsa was 45th.
Steven Brown and Bryant Maxey was 26th and 27th, respectively, in the No. 7-8 race.
In league action, Stinnett helped the Panthers post wins over Enumclaw and Yelm, but narrowly lost to Peninsula in a three-team meet Sept. 23 at Nolte State Park in Enumclaw.
Stinnett, a senior, finished the 2.8-mile course with a first-place time of 17:57, while Wilson was eighth at 19:31.
It was Stinnett’s third win of the season.
Espinal (20:45) was 17th and Chloe Beal (20:48) was 18th out of more than 55 runners.
Karlie Pyl (20:57) finished 20th, Campbell (21:15) was 22nd, Taylor Howick (15:55) was 43rd, and Sara Peterson (30:04) was 57th.
The Panther boys lost to Enumclaw and Peninsula, but beat Yelm in a three-team meet Sept. 23. Bonney Lake fell to host Enumclaw 25-30 and to Peninsula 15-46. They beat Yelm, 16-45.
In the 2.8-mile run, Baumchen paced BL with an eighth-place finish with a time of 16:18. Hawkins placed 10th at 16:47, while Edwards took 12th at 16:54 and Blair Libby was 13th at 16:55.
McGraw (17:21) was 18th, Maxey (18:02) took 21st and Alex Kulsa finished 23rd at 18:48.
Bonney Lake will join Lakes in a three-team meet today, Wednesday, at White River.
