BONNEY LAKE SWIM AND DIVE: Panther diver picks up first win of 2009

Kelsi Potterf started her quest toward another undefeated diving season with a victory Thursday against Capital.

The Bonney Lake High swim team captain, who finished sixth at state in 2008, earned 211.10 points on her home turf for the diving win. The Panthers dropped the meet 133-37, but the season opener had a number of highlights including two second-place finishes for Elise Duncan. Duncan earned her second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.18 seconds and nosed into her runner-up spot in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:06.16.

The Panthers posted a number of third-place times. Individually, Ashley Karboski finished third in the 200 individual medley in 3:24.51, while the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay each captured third. The medley relay, featuring Ali Ehle, Janae Charbonneau, Karboski and Duncan posted a time of 2:44.60.

Duncan, Ehle, Potterf and Tosha Vance combined their legs of the 200 freestyle relay for a time of 2:14.24, while Vance, Charbonneau, Katie Koens and Alexis Richardson raced to a 5:25.61 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Karboski also earned a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:40.22. Potterf, who went back-to-back with her relay race, placed fourth in the 100 backstroke in 1:28.30. Koens also picked up a fourth-place finish fro her 2:50.22 in the 200 freestyle.

Koens also made huge strides in the 500 freestyle. In her first try at the event, Koens dropped 1 minute off her swim practice time trial for a 7:39.42.
