Bonney Lake High’s Ben Davidson and Steve Scott return to action at the West-Central District boys tennis tournament.
The doubles duo earned the No. 5 seed during the South Puget Sound League 3A-Western Cascade Conference tournament in October.
On the girls’ side, the Panthers’ doubles team of sisters Alise and Emily McCoy earned the No. 4 seed Thursday at the subdistrict tournament in Olympia, which also featured the top SPSL 3A and WCC teams.
The Panther pair lost to Yelm’s top doubles team 6-2, 6-2 for the fourth spot into the WCD tournament.
The McCoy sisters, who missed last year’s state tournament by a single match made it their goal early this year to make the tournament this year.
Coach Billy Jacobsen said the McCoys should be able to make to make the state tournament this year if they continue to play with confidence.
So far, no Bonney Lake tennis player has qualified for the state tournament in the short history of the school.
Bonney Lake’s second doubles team of Katie Barrie and Jessica Roller finished just out of the district qualifying spot, landing in seventh-place as the first alternates for Tuesday’s matches.
First singles player Ashley Reisen finished best for the Panthers in the singles tournament, but also just missed qualifying for the district tournament. Reisen finished in seventh place, as the first alternate.
District competition began Tuesday, results came too late to be printed here, and will continue Thursday and Saturday at Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma’s Parkland area.
The top seven doubles teams and singles players, in both boys and girls play, advance to the state tournament May 28 and 29 in Vancouver, Wash.
