Bonney Lake track and field: Bonney Lake’s Theresa Edwards finished second in the 3,200 run at state

DAY ONE: Bonney Lake's Edwards brings home second-place medal in girls' 3,200-meter run, while other local teams and individuals qualify for finals in 4x400 relay and 110 girls hurdles.

Bonney Lake’s Theresa Edwards took second place at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships Thursday at Mt. Tahoma High Stadium.

Edwards was three seconds behind Seattle Prep’s Carey Park. She posted a time of 11:03.85 and was eight seconds ahead of Columbia River’s Sarah Bobbe.

Others qualifying for the finals were:

• Stephanie Jones of Enumclaw and Shelby Rowland of Bonney Lake. Jones finished fourth in her heat (15.38) and Rowland’s time was 15.64. Rowland finished third in her prelim heat.

• Bonney Lake’s 4×400 girls relay team ran a 4:00.77 to qualify for the finals. They were within a fraction of a second behind Bainbridge and Mt. Spokane. Sumner and Enumclaw failed to advance.

• The 4×400 boys team from Bonney Lake and White River advanced to the finals. Mt. Spokane had the best time of 3:34.46. Bonney Lake’s qualifying time was 3:24.17 and WR’s time was 3:25.95.

Sumner’s Kevin Johnson finished 14th in the pole vault with a mark of 12 feet.

White River’s 4×200 girls relay team did not make the cut to the finals and the Enumclaw boys missed the 4×400 finals.
